Home of the DigniTEA mug

Made With Mud Pottery

I’m Nicola, the potter behind Made With Mud.  Home of the ‘DigniTEA’ range of mugs.

I have my own studio based in Lincolnshire UK where I throw mostly functional pottery.

I started working with clay around 2011 and progressed onto throwing around 2016.

Sadly I don’t have a physical shop or studio you can visit.  But you can keep up to date with ‘what’s happening in the studio’ by following my social media or signing up to my newsletter.

DigniTEA Mugs Update

DigniTEA Mugs &
'Have a DigniTEA Drink on Us'

I have been making adapted (DigniTEA) mugs since 2021.  It all started when I was asked by a friend of a friend to make a mug for her husband.  He had Alzheimer’s and needed a mug with a second handle.  The only cups they were able to source were very medical or baby sippy cups.  So I made my first double handled mug and I made a promise to keep stocking DigniTEA mugs alongside my other products.  I went on to make a few adaptions, like lowering the handles so silicone lids could be added.  This meant you could still drink from the mug but with a non spill lid and straw.  This led to another request from a friend.  Their Father needed a second handle but was looking for something that would rest on their supporting hand and be more discreet than a second handle.

Word got round and people contacted me with different accessibility needs and I came up with more and more ideas to help overcome the difficulties they were facing.  As a potter that was making my own items, I was able to be completely flexible in my designs and ideas.  I wanted to be sure that I worked with the recipient and make sure that I made something they needed, rather than what I thought they needed.

2023 started as a very quiet year for me, so much so I was looking at other work opportunities to keep my business afloat.  In the meantime I kept posting on my social media accounts, when out of nowhere my DigniTEA mugs went viral.  Millions of views.  I was unable to keep up with the demand so I started looking for someone UK based that could make my designs from moulds.

Now most of my DigniTEA designs are handmade by slip casting.  I pick up the pieces that have been bisque fired and then glaze them in my studio.  I am so proud of being able to say that the entire process is UK made and based in the East Midlands.

Have a DigniTEA Drink on Us!

I was inundated by followers wanting to pay a mug forward for someone who may not be in a position to purchase a DigniTEA mug.

In response I have set up ‘Have A DigniTEA Drink On Us’  Click Here to make a donation or fill in the form to receive a donated mug. This is NOT an order form.  *Please note that the form to receive is currently closed due to the huge response, I have over 200 people on the list.  I will update the page when it reopens.

Latest News

DigniTEA mugs are selling out on re-stock days.  My last restock was 11th December 2023 and sold out in 15 mins.

I post on here and my socials when the next restock day will be and give plenty of notice. I am sadly unable to contact you directly to say they’ll be a restock and I currently only stock online.  Alternatively you sign up to my newsletter (as above) to receive re-stock notifications straight to your inbox.

As the mugs are now being part manufactured, the turn around should be a lot quicker for the next restock.  Update – I have recovered from my hand surgery and taken stock of the latest DigniTEA mugs.  I am currently preparing, glazing, finishing these mugs and will send an email when I have a date for restock.

Mugs start at £26.5 plus p&p and I ship worldwide. However I don’t currently ship to EU countries that require a packaging licence.

I am currently unable to personalise or make commission pieces. But I am hoping as the manufacturing side settles down it will free me up in the future to take on commissions again.  If you want to write a name on a mug (maybe the recipient is in a care home) search for ‘ceramic pen’ they’re about £5 each.

I’m very aware that I’ve not been making much of my usual stock.  Made With Mud mugs, butter keepers, jugs etc  Part of the reason I opted to have DigniTEA mugs part manufactured was to allow me the time to return to making the every day items you and I love.
